Posthumous BWH Award for Christina
(posted February 26, 2016)

On December 21st, 2015, Christina Ruth was acknowledged posthumously with a “Partners in Excellence” individual award at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital (BWH) in Boston. The award, representing the 20th anniversary annual award ceremony, was appreciatively accepted by her husband Gerard Ruth and preceded by a wonderful and moving presentation by fellow Caring for Angels (CFA) Foundation trustee, and dear friend and colleague to Christina, Kerri Duggan, RN, BSN. Kerri eloquently and passionately spoke about Christina’s life journey, culminating at BWH as a NICU caregiver, and ultimately as a patient. All CFA Foundation trustee board members were present for the award ceremony and were joined by Christina’s friends, “nursing family,” and members of Gerard’s family.

Pie-Pic-Dec-2016The Partners in Excellence individual award dedicated to Christina was granted by BWH, Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organization, and Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center. The award’s cornerstone for excellence lists “Quality, Sustainability, Leadership, Teamwork, Efficiency,” and “Community.” Christina was specifically recognized for her “Teamwork.” Her NICU Nurse director, Marianne Cummings, RN, MSN, nominated Christina for the “above and beyond” efforts she made to support her fellow caregivers at BWH NICU. Dr. Elizabeth Nabel, MD, President, Brigham and Women’s Healthcare, and Dr. David Torchiana, MD, President and CEO of Partners Healthcare presented the award to Gerard, as shown.
